Meet Craig / The person behind the store
A life with more than one chapter.
Munition Systems (Ammo). Satellite communications. IT networks and WiFi. A microphone. Not the usual route to a furniture store.
Craig has worked with systems that connect people and made people laugh—at work and on stage. Station Home Design is another chapter in a life that has never fitted neatly into one job title.
First, the uniform.
He served in the United States Air Force for 11 years, 10 months, and 29 days. He began in Munition Systems (Ammo), then transitioned into satellite communications (SATCOM). He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. The ribbon rack and stripes shown here are his—a part of his story, rather than the whole introduction.
Behind the connection.
His civilian career continued in telecommunications and network engineering. On a large headquarters build-out, Craig designed and validated wireless coverage throughout the building, coordinated contractors, and stepped into audiovisual support when the project needed help.
One detail in a professional recommendation says more than a list of technical skills could: months after the wireless network was installed, Craig walked the building again and updated the coverage documentation. The installation was finished. He went back to check how it was working in real-world conditions.
The letters also describe the person colleagues turned to when something needed fixing. After his temporary audiovisual assignment, staff continued seeking him out for other problems. One recommendation recounts a building manager’s response when asked whether he knew Craig: “Everyone knows Craig!”
That recommendation credits his humor and approachability, too. It’s a different view of an engineering career: not just the systems on a diagram, but the person willing to follow a problem through—and approachable enough that people ask.
Then there’s the microphone.
In December 2022, Craig stepped onto the stage at Goodnight’s in Raleigh for a Comedy Academy Stand-up 101 graduation showcase. People who see the recording often assume he was already performing regularly—that they’re watching his tenth time on stage, not his first. It was his first.
The set opens with an IT guy with a personality, then follows the peculiar logic people bring to ordinary situations. Awkward office encounters. An unusual definition of being prepared. Sci-fi conveniences with inconvenient consequences. Family misunderstandings, and helping a friend assemble a TV stand during a power outage.
Craig doesn’t put himself above the absurdity. He’s part of it: noticing the details, following a thought a little too far, and making himself part of the joke. His coworkers don’t need the recording to know that side of him. He makes them laugh in the course of an ordinary workday, too.
It was his first stand-up performance. Making people laugh wasn’t new.
Room for the next chapter.
At Station Home Design, the aim is straightforward: help people find furniture, rugs, lighting, and finishing touches that work for the way they actually live. A beautiful photograph is a useful starting point. Knowing whether a piece fits your room, works with what you already own, and meets your practical needs matters just as much.
There is room for a carefully considered purchase and an unexpected favorite. For the piece that finishes a space and the one that gives you a reason to begin again. Your home doesn’t need to resemble anyone else’s finished project.
Craig’s story has several chapters. Your home can, too.
